Felony stealing charges are pending against a man who police say stole from two Washington women.
A St. Louis man was arrested Wednesday in St. Louis County and transferred to the Washington Police Department. The man was wanted for questioning stemming from an Aug. 12 stealing incident.
Police said the man had been involved in a relationship with a Washington woman for about two months. At around 10 a.m. Aug. 12, the man had taken his girlfriend to work in her car.
The man told his girlfriend he needed to use her car to go to St. Louis.
After dropping the woman off, the man called and said he needed her to disarm her security system for her home in the 700 block of West Seventh Street. The women shared the home with her mother, who was out of town at the time.
At around 1:20 p.m. the man told the victim he had made it to St. Louis and the woman turned the home security system back on. The women returned home later in the day and noticed several items around the house were missing.
The woman told police she noticed a toolbox in the house had been “rummaged” through. The woman said she looked in the trunk of her car and found several tools that had been in the toolbox and a birthday gift bag she had kept in the house.
The woman said cash, jewelry, and personal items were missing from around the house. The woman did not contact police until her mother came home.
The woman’s mother also discovered cash, medication and other items missing.
After police were notified, Washington police put out a wanted alert on the man as a person of interest in the case. Once he was in custody, Wednesday, Washington police said the man confessed to taking the items.
The man appeared to be using a fake name with his girlfriend. He had active warrants out under his real name in St. Louis and St. Charles County, police said.
