North Plainfield police chief is victim of Watchung home burglary

Watchung Police detectives and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Task Force are investigating the incident, which resulted in the theft of three handguns, jewelry, cash, clothing and a Mercedes-Benz.

The vehicle was subsequently located in Irvington on the day of the burglary, abandoned and on fire, according to police.

According to published reports, North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti is the homeowner. The clothing taken, according to the report, included a police uniform as well as a badge.

Parenti could not immediately be reached for comment.

Video footage and photos of one suspect were captured by Parenti’s home security system.
